Why Tussey Mountain Has Converted the Snow Tube Hill Back Into a Ski & Snowboard Slope

At Tussey Mountain, our goal is to create the best possible experience for the greatest number of winter guests. After carefully evaluating our terrain, guest demand, and the limitations of our footprint, we’ve made the decision to convert the former Snow Tube hill back into ski and snowboard terrain.

There are a few key reasons behind this change:

1. Our terrain is limited - and demand for skiing and snowboarding is growing.

Tussey has a large community of beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders who need space to learn, progress, and enjoy their time on the mountain. By reopening this area as ski/snowboard terrain, we’re able to offer more room, reduce congestion, and create a safer, more enjoyable learning environment.

2. Snow tubing has a very small operational window.

In our region, consistent snowmaking temperatures for tubing are limited, and the hill requires a deep, durable base to provide a quality tubing experience. When weather patterns are marginal, tubing often ends up with shortened seasons or unpredictable availability—something our guests understandably find frustrating. Shifting our focus allows us to provide a more reliable mountain experience overall.

3. We’re choosing to fully commit to what serves the most guests.

Skiing and snowboarding are core to who we are, and expanding that terrain allows us to better support our lesson programs, our growing community of new riders, and families who return season after season to learn at Tussey. This change helps us create a smoother flow across the mountain and a stronger experience for everyone.
