PRIVATE LESSON

Private Lessons at Tussey Mountain are offered in 60 minute sessions with instruction available for all levels. Our Snowsports Staff is diverse and experienced – we are confident that we can match the right coach to your needs!

Private lessons can be booked for up to 4 people with one instructor, however all attendees must be age 6 or older and can ride the chairlift by themselves.

Lessons can be scheduled online. Time slots will be made available closer to Opening Day. Arrive a minimum of 30 minutes before your lesson time to check in and be ready for your instruction. Lessons are non-transferable and non-refundable.

One Hour Private Lesson: $90.00
Additional 60 Minutes: +$40
Additional Student: +$40


BEGINNER SKI PACKAGE


Age: 6 Years through Adult
Skill Level:
Never-Ever and Second-Time lessons only
Cost: $100

The Beginner Ski Package is available on weekends and holidays only. This program is intended for first time or beginner skiers that are ages 6 and up. This package includes an introductory lesson, a Beginner slope pass, and rental equipment. Lessons are 60-90 minutes long and classes are limited to 6 students. BEGINNER SNOWBOARD PACKAGE

Never-Ever and Second-Time lessons only
Cost: $100

The Beginner Snowboard Package is available on weekends and holidays only. This program is intended for first time and new beginner snowboarders that are ages 6 and up. This package includes an introductory lesson, a Beginner slope pass, and rental equipment. Lessons are 60-90 minutes long and classes are limited to 6 students. GROUP LESSONS


Age: 6 Years through Adult

Never-Ever and Beginner only
Individual Group Lesson: $60

A Group Lesson at Tussey Mountain is a 60 minute block of instruction that is open to the public for either NEVER-EVER or BEGINNER skiers or snowboarders. Available for ages 6 and up (for children ages 5 and under, see our Paw Prints Lessons). Individuals will be placed into groups based on age and skill level and our goal is to maintain a maximum of 5 students to every 1 instructor. The Group Lesson does not include rental equipment or a lift pass.

Note: there is a possibility that you may be the only person in your group; you will not be charged as a Private Lesson should this occur.

AGE 5 AND UNDER PACKAGE


Age: 3-5 Years Old

Cost: $100

The Age 5 and Under Package is a package offered for a 1-day instruction that includes a 1-hour, non-intensive lesson and equipment rental (if needed). This class is designed to encourage positive snow sports attitude for beginners and up that are age 3-5 years old. Limited to 1 individual only per class as this is a one-on-one private lesson.


PROGRAMS

EXPLORERS PROGRAM


Age: 4 Years through 5th Grade
Skill Level: All Levels

** THE SKI CLASSES FOR THE EXPLORERS PROGRAM IS AT CAPACITY. THE ONLY SPOTS REMAINING ARE FOR SNOWBOARDING **

Come join the fun in this 6-week program (formerly called Adventurers / Mountaineers) intended to improve the skiing or riding skills of kids, age four years old through 5th grade. This is a non-competitive program for all levels, from first-timers to frequent skiers and riders. The goal is to improve each child’s skills and confidence while having fun, building friendships, and developing a life-long love of the sport. **Registration for Intermediate and advanced levels (Green, Blue, Purple) will be very limited on Sunday.

START: Saturday, Jan. 20 or Sunday, Jan. 21
END: Saturday, Feb., 24 or Sunday, Feb. 25
TIME: Saturdays, 1:00-3:00 PM; or Sundays, 9:00-11:00 AM
COST: $230 ( if have Season Pass*) / $370 without Season Pass

*Children 5 and under do not require a Season Pass for our Programs.
If equipment rental is needed, add $100 to cost


INTRAMURAL PROGRAM


Age: 3rd Grade and above

All Levels

The after-school IM program is a community favorite that is available to youth in 3rd grade and older (as well as their families). This fun 5 week program offers skiing or snowboarding to local students at a discounted rate.

PLEASE NOTE: The 2024 IM Program is closed for registration and is at capacity.

For more information contact your school’s Ski Club or the Tussey ticket office. Have your child check with your school to see if there is participation this year. The school’s ski advisor may be able to answer your questions.

READ BEFORE REGISTERING: New this year is our online point of sale system. You will need to create an account to purchase items from our online store, including for programs and lessons. Create this account for the parent/guardian as you will need to be age 18+ to purchase. Once you have your item(s) in your cart, it will ask you to assign them to a guest. It is at this point that you will create an account for your child(ren) and connect their items to their name.


MEAL CARDS: Each participant in the IM Program will receive a blank Meal Card that will have a $0.00 balance. It is up to you if you would like to use the meal card by adding money to it. Those meal cards will be distributed to each participant at the same time you receive your IM items.

Last season’s meal cards are still valid, however additional funds will not be able to be added moving forward.


PENN STATE KINESIOLOGY


ENROLLMENT IS VIA PENN STATE LIONPATH
The Penn State Kinesiology department offers the following mixed-mode courses to undergraduate students at University Park: Kines 11 (Downhill Skiing) and Kines 12 (Snowboarding). Tussey Mountain and its snowsport instructors are used to help facilitate the on-snow portion of the course. Students are responsible for their own transportation. All students are required to wear a snowsports helmet during course instruction. Consult with the Penn State Kinesiology instructor, Laura Gilham ([email protected]) for any questions by using your Canvas class portal.

DATES: 6 week course on either Monday (101), Tuesday (102), Wednesday (103), Thursday (104) or Saturday (105) sections.
COST: $240 (tuition)
ADD: $140 (for lift tickets; no additional cost if student has a Season Pass)
ADD: $100 (for rental equipment if student does not have own equipment)

WOMEN’S CLINIC


Age: Adult Women

This six-week Program is taught by women, for women! Instruction, practice, and feedback will challenge and encourage women to improve their skills and confidence, with the help of experienced PSIA certified instructors. The clinic is open to women of all ability levels.

SKILL LEVELS

No matter your skill level, you will learn and grow with our PSIA Certified Instructors. Group Lessons, Private Lessons, and special Programs are available! When scheduling a lesson, you will be asked what level you are at. Use the chart below to determine the color of your ability level.


Level 1:
RED

Skill: It’s your first time skiing or snowboarding. You’re learning the basics, like how to stop and turn.

Tussey Terrain: Little Bear

Level 2:
ORANGE

Skill: Not your first time. You’re working on stopping consistently and starting to turn.

Tussey Terrain: Little Bear

Level 3:
YELLOW

Skill: Can link turns and navigate Beginner terrain in a controlled and safe manner.

Tussey Terrain: Little Bear

Level 4-5:
GREEN

Skill: You’re comfortable with faster speeds and can link turns with varied size and shape. Skis are starting to match at the end of turns

Tussey Terrain: Deer Run

Level 6-7:
BLUE

Skill: You can confidently ski or ride Deer Run and are ready to try blue terrain. You can make short, fast turns and your skis are mostly parallel. Snowboarders are starting to explore riding switch.

Tussey Terrain: Deer Run; Utah via Chicken Ridge

Level 8-9:
PURPLE

Skill: You ski or ride the whole mountain comfortably and are working on advanced techniques, such as carving.

RACING PROGRAMS

Founded in 1984, the Tussey Mountain Alpine Racing Team (TMART) program has a rich history of helping youth ski racers achieve individual Alpine Racing goals within the Pennsylvania Alpine Racing Association (PARA) and beyond.  This includes State Champions, Governors Cup winners, and qualification into Junior National Championship races. The foundation of TMART is the experienced USSA certified coaching  staff that is supported by dedicated parents, to help between 80-100 youth athletes become exceptional skiers.
