Lessons at Tussey Mountain

Private Lessons

Age: All Ages
Skill Level: All Levels

Private Lessons are offered in one hour sessions. Lessons are available for any skill level, and you can discuss your goals with your Instructor. Lessons are non-transferable and non-refundable (Books of 5 or 10 lessons can be shared). For lesson times outside of what is offered online, contact the Tussey Mountain office and we can match you with an available Instructor.

Private lessons can be booked for up to 4 people with one instructor, however all attendees must be age 6 or older and can ride the chairlift by themselves.

Lessons can be scheduled by calling the Ticket Office. Arrive a minimum of 30 minutes before your lesson time to check in and be ready for your instruction. Books of 5 or 10 lessons can be purchased in-person only.

One Hour Private Lesson: $80.00
Additional 60 Minutes: $40
Additional Student: $40
Book of 10 Private Lessons: $680

Group Lessons

Age: 6 Years through Adult
Skill Level: Never-Ever and Beginner only

Group Lessons are available on weekends only: Saturday and Sunday 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, or 3:00 PM. Available for ages 6 through Adult. (For younger children, see our Paw Prints Lessons). Group lessons last 1 hour, and walk-ins are welcome if space is available. Please check-in at the Ticket Office at least 30 minutes before your lesson, especially if you need to rent equipment. Lessons are available for all levels of ability.

Individual Group Lesson: $60

Little Bear: Learn to Ski/Snowboard Package

Age: 6 Years through Adult
Skill Level: Never-Ever and Second-Time lessons only

Available weekends. This program is for first time skier or riders ages 6 and up. This package includes our introductory lesson, Beginner slope pass, and rental equipment. Lessons are 90 minutes long and classes are limited to 6 students. Please arrive a hour before your lesson and check in at the Ticket Office. Lessons are offered on Saturday and Sunday at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm.

Lesson/Pass/Rental Package: $85.00

Paw Prints Lessons

Age: 3-5 Years Old
Skill Level: All Levels

Paw Prints includes a 1-hour, non-intensive lesson and rentals, designed to encourage positive snow sports attitude for beginners and up. Limited to 1 individual only.

Paw Prints Lessons can be scheduled by calling the Ticket Office.

Skill Levels

No matter your skill level, you will learn and grow with our PSIA Certified Instructors. Group Lessons, Private Lessons, and special Programs are available!

Group and Private Lessons can be reserved from our Ticket Office. All other programs have enrollment instructions listed below.

Level 1

Color: Red
Tussey Terrain: Little Bear
Skill: It’s your first time skiing or snowboarding. You’re learning the basics, like how to stop and turn.

Level 2

Color: Orange
Tussey Terrain: Little Bear
Skill: Not your first time. You’re working on stopping consistently and starting to turn.

Level 3

Color: Yellow
Tussey Terrain: Little Bear
Skill: Can link turns and navigate Beginner terrain in a controlled and safe manner.

Level 4-5

Color: Green
Tussey Terrain: Deer Run
Skill: You’re comfortable with faster speeds and can link turns with varied size and shape. Skis are starting to match at the end of turns

Level 6-7

Color: Blue
Tussey Terrain: Deer Run; Utah via Chicken Ridge
Skill: You can confidently ski or ride Deer Run and are ready to try blue terrain. You can make short, fast turns and your skis are mostly parallel. Snowboarders are starting to explore riding switch.

Level 8-9

Color: Purple
Tussey Terrain: Utah; bottom Tuscarora
Skill: You ski or ride the whole mountain comfortably and are working on advanced techniques, such as carving.


Explorers Program (formerly Adventurers & Mountaineers)

Age: 4 Years through 5th Grade
Skill Level: All Levels

Come join the fun in this 6-week program intended to improve the skiing or riding skills of kids, four years old through 5th grade. This is a non-competitive program for all levels, from first-timers to frequent skiers and riders. The goal is to improve each child’s skills and confidence while having fun, building friendships, and developing a life-long love of the sport. **Registration for Intermediate and advanced levels (Green, Blue, Purple) will be very limited on Sunday.

WAIT LIST: If registration is full, please print out the Explorers Program .pdf form to be placed on our waitlist. Fill out the form, and drop off at office or send it to PO Box 885, Boalsburg, PA 16827 without payment. We will contact you for payment if you make it off the waitlist. All participants on the waitlist will know before or by January 7th if they have made it into the program.


Women’s Ski Clinic

Age: Any
Skill Level: All Levels

Registration begins Friday, November 18th. Check back here for registration links. This six-week Program is taught by women, for women! Instruction, practice, and feedback will challenge and encourage women to improve their skills and confidence, with the help of experienced PSIA-certified instructors. The clinic is open to women of all ability levels.

PSU Kinesiology

ENROLLMENT IS VIA PENN STATE LIONPATH
The Penn State Kinesiology department offers the following mixed-mode courses to undergraduate students at University Park: Kines 11 (Downhill Skiing) and Kines 12 (Snowboarding). Tussey Mountain and its snowsport instructors are used to help facilitate the on-snow portion of the course. Students are responsible for their own transportation. All students are required to wear a snowsports helmet during course instruction. Consult with the Penn State Kinesiology instructor, Laura Gilham ([email protected]) for any questions by using your Canvas class portal.


Intramural Program

Age: 4th Grade and above
Skill Level: All Levels

The after school IM program is a community favorite available to children in 3rd grade and older (as well as their families). This fun 4, 5, or 6 week program offers skiing or snowboarding to local students at a discounted rate.

For more information contact your school’s Ski Club or the Tussey ticket office. Have your child check with your school to see if there is participation this year. The school’s ski advisor may be able to answer your questions. Otherwise, feel free to read over the info packet containing prices, dates and important facts about the program this year!

TMART

The Tussey Mountain Alpine Racing Team (TMART) is one of many outstanding athletic programs in our community.

TMART is an organization of young ski racers, parents, and coaches and offers a variety of programs to satisfy diverse levels of racing interests. The mission of the organization is to create and maintain an exceptional skiing and racing program in a fun and challenging environment. Our vision is to provide all racers the highest quality coaching and to prepare them for regional, state, and national competitions with an emphasis on sportsmanship and skill. Last year TMART racers competed in PARA and USSA races at ski hills throughout the State. Many of our racers consistently qualify for the State Derbies and have gone on to competitions in the Northeast including the Junior Olympics.


Development Program (DEVO)

Age: 8-12 Years
Skill Level: Intermediate

The TMART Development Program is designed for skiers who are interested in improving their skiing ability, learning about ski racing, and preparing for a spot on the competitive race team! For skiers ages 8-12 that can ski down Utah (or intermediate terrain) independently. Skiers in the development program train two days a week in small groups with experienced coaches who will focus on individual needs throughout the season.

Competition Team (COMP)

Age: 8-19 Years
Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

The TMART Competition Team is designed for intermediate to expert skiers (ages 8-19) who have a strong technical background or have advanced through the Development Program (not required). Racers have the opportunity to compete in local and regional US Ski and snowboard races. TMART racers train four days a week in small groups with experienced coaches who create a fun and challenging experience.

2022-23 Season Information

The kids’ Explorers Program (formerly Adventurers and Mountaineers) is full.

Tussey Mountain will open for the season when conditions exist for snowmaking, often in late December. Our official winter program season begins after January 1st.

Registration Instructions

  1. When registration opens, visit the Online Shop to find the Program you want. Links will also be sent via email and available on our website when they open.
  2. You will be asked to indicate whether the Participant is a Season Pass holder, or is 5-years-old or younger. Season Pass holders get a discount on our programs. Children 5 and under do not need a Season Pass. We will confirm that participants have a valid Season Pass prior to the start of the program.
  3. Select Add Rental if you need to reserve Rental Equipment for your program (add $75).
  4. Follow these directions for any additional registrations you are submitting.
  5. After your payment has been successfully processed, you must fill out a Registration Form for all program Participants (a link will be available when you submit payment and on this page). Submission of a Registration Form without payment will not guarantee you a spot in the program – you must submit payment FIRST, or you risk the Program selling out before you have paid.
  6. Before registration opens, look at the Program descriptions and determine what date, time, and (for kids’ program) Skill Level you are registering for. Having this information ready will speed up the registration process and give you the greatest chance of getting into the program.
Cancellation Policy: Programs are non-transferable and there will be no refunds or make up dates for missed lessons. You must cancel by January 7th. All cancellations are subject to a 5% refund processing fee for the total amount purchased.
